The petition to rezone the property for the apartment project was approved by the Savannah City Council during the July 22 meeting. That vote allowed for 27 units, compared to the 16 units the previous zoning allowed for the site at at 315 West 38th St. At the meeting, the project’s petitioner, Brent Watts, informed the council that the rent would be market rate, with ranges expected between $1,600-$3,000, while stating some smaller units would be closer to $1,000.

In addition, lease applications are now being accepted for The Lowe as construction nears completion for the 4-story, multi-family and mixed-use project at Montgomery and 31st streets. The apartments advertised include studios with rents starting at $1,610, 1-bedrooms ranging between $1,635 and $2,260, ad 2-bedroom units for $2,515 and $2,635.

The apartment complex, located in the adjacent Victorian District, benefited from a 2018 text amendment to the zoning ordinance allowing for four stories and a 55-foot height.
