Bloomingdale approves data center moratorium

The Bloomingdale City Council unanimously approved on Aug. 20 a six-month moratorium on new or expanded data centers to give the city time to study and potentially adopt regulations governing the facilities. The moratorium runs run through Feb. 16, 2027, and halts the acceptance, approval or denial of applications for rezonings, special land-use permits, land-disturbance permits, building permits, business licenses and certificates of occupancy related to data centers. The resolution says the city wants to examine potential impacts on residents and businesses, including protecting access to power and water supplies. Read the full story>

Bloomingdale approves $6.7 million budget, holds tax rate at 10 mills

The Bloomingdale City Council unanimously adopted the city’s fiscal year 2026-27 operating budget on June 18, approving a $6.69 million general fund budget, a $1.12 million water and sewer enterprise fund budget and maintaining the city’s property tax rate at 10 mills. The budget increases general fund spending by about 8.5% over the current fiscal year, with public safety accounting for the largest share of expenditures, including about $2.06 million for police and $1.37 million for fire services. The budget also includes a five-year capital improvement plan and maintains 50 budgeted full-time positions citywide. The budget and millage rate were approved without opposition following a public hearing that drew no public comments.
