Sept. 17, 2023 (updated Sept. 18, 2023) – Unlike the city of Savannah, Chatham County doesn’t publicly list where licensed short-term vacation rentals are located. In an attempt to provide this information, which many readers have sought, I made an open records request to obtain a list of all the vacation rentals. That was on July 24. I finally received that list on Aug. 22 – kind of.

The list the county sent me was missing the complete addresses (city, state) of the vacation rentals and owners. I was able to complete the vacation rentals addresses, since most of them have Savannah addresses (some have unincorporated Tybee locations). However, I’m still waiting for the county to send me the addresses of the owners, which will show how many are locally owned and how many are investors from outside Chatham and Georgia.

Update: On Sept. 18, the county spokesperson informed me that current limitations of the software used by the county doesn’t allow reporting of city and state location information for STVR owners. Future updates by the software vendor will allow for more clarity, and for that information to be available, according to the spokesperson.

Meanwhile, I’m trying to get some clarification on one of the “vacation rentals.” The list the county sent includes a Donatos Pizza, which sounds highly questionable. But who knows, perhaps the chance to live amid the aroma of mozzarella and freshly baked bread is just what some folks are looking for.

Update: On Sept. 18, the county spokesperson informed me the Donatos was included in error and was being removed from their database.

Anyway, I decided to go ahead and publish the list with an accompanying map based on the information I have, with the noted issues. Unlike some pizza places, the county is not exactly known for a speedy delivery and it could be a while before I get the additional info.
