Citi Trends sells headquarters, staying in Savannah
Savannah-based Citi Trends recently sold its administrative headquarters building near US 80 and Interstate 95, but the retail chain intends to continue calling the city home, according to officials.
Citi Trends Chief Financial Officer Heather Plutino confirmed the sale via email on Monday and said that the company has leased a new space at 17 Park of Commerce off Chatham Parkway.
“We’re happy to say that we will still be in Savannah,” Plutino said.
Specializing in apparel and accessories primarily for African American families, Citi Trends recentlly reported positive growth fueled by increases in traffic during its first quarter fiscal 2025, with total sales increasing by $15.4 million, or 8.3% compared to 2024’s first quarter.
“The tide is rising on all fronts at Citi Trends with all retail metrics trending positively and growth in both apparel and non-apparel, in all climate zones, and in all store volumes, CEO Ken Seipel said in the June announcement. “I’m confident that our refined operating model, dedicated people and strong customer focus position Citi Trends to deliver continued strong results, market share gains and shareholder value creation.”
In addition to its headquarters, Citi Trends has three stores in Savannah and more than 660 stores throughout the country.
Public records show that the headquarters at 104 Coleman Boulevard was sold for $12 million to a Florida-based company, Palm Way Investments. The corporation specializes in leasing nonresidential buildings, according to its state business registration.

Victory Drive shopping center sold
The Planet Fitness-anchored Crossroads Shopping Center on Victory Drive at Skidaway Road was recently acquired an Atlanta company for $13 million, according to public records. Ardent Companies, through a corporate entity called TAC Cross Roads LLC, purchased the shopping center on July 11, tax records show. The asset management firm manages a commercial portfolio of 5.6 million square feet with $1.5 billion in assets, according to the company’s website. The company has not yet responded after Savannah requested comment on the purchase via email over the weekend.
Hotel Overlay expansion update
The city of Savannah plans to present a hotel overlay expansion study to the Metropolitan Planning Commission (MPC) on Aug. 26 to gather feedback from the board, according to city officials.
The pending presentation comes about two years since neighborhood associations from the Victorian, Thomas Square, and Cuyler-Brownville areas petitioned to expand the overlay to include their historic districts, with the aim of protecting neighborhood character, support housing affordability, encourage residential infill, and ensure meaningful public review of hotel projects. In response, the city initiated the study
The Hotel Overlay Study provides information on the proposed boundaries, recommendations, and supporting analysis related to the overlay.

Irish Pub opening in Starland
An Irish Pub, The Sexton, is expected to open in the Starland District at 9 West 43rd St.
Built on four generations of family hospitality, the pub/restaurant will be serving “elevated Irish street” food such as pork pasties, Guinness stew, braised lamb shanks, bangers & mash, as reported by Savannah Made Simple’s Instagram post.
An alcohol license application was submitted last week for the establishment, after the Savannah City Council approved a special-use application for the pub/restaurant on July 10.
The property’s owner, Mohamed Eldibany, had previously restored the historic Victorian house at the site to house a previous restaurant that has since closed.

Darling Oyster Bar shows signs of life
Last week, the folks behind the long-planned Savannah location for the Charleston-based Darling Oyster Bar applied for an alcohol license after renovating the historic building at 27 Montgomery St. near City Market.
“Coming soon!!! Stay tuned to our social media for announcements!” is the message I got back on Sunday when I inquired about the restaurant’s potential opening via Instagram.

This is a cringe sentence, “ Specializing in apparel and accessories primarily for African American families.” Citi Trends sales clothes period. Yes, African American families may shop there more but clothes/fashion should NOT tied to a demographic. Any one can shop there.
OK. That is the description they included in their press release, website and in their investor calls.
