Part of the ongoing Savannah Community Memory Project, this event will focus on gathering the histories of the district’s neighborhoods including Kensington Park, Ardsley Park, Chatham Crescent, Habersham Woods, Oakdale, Bacon Park, and Parkside.

City staff invite all residents, business owners, employees, students, community leaders, and faith leaders — both past and present — from all District 4 neighborhoods to add their stories to the City’s official collective memory.

Participants can bring photographs, documents, and materials that share the story of their community. Through oral history interviews, staff invite residents to share how their neighborhoods have changed over time and recall personal memories of living in the community. Specific information about past community events, leaders, or landmarks that make the neighborhood special are also welcomed. Individuals interested in sitting for an oral history interview are encouraged to contact the Archives to reserve a time slot.

All collected materials will become a permanent part of the Municipal Archives’ collections, ensuring the neighborhood’s history remains easily accessible to anyone interested in learning about it. Images will be scanned and added to the Online Digital Image Catalog. Oral histories will be added to the Voices of Savannah portal at savannahga.gov/digitalcollections.

If residents are unable to attend in person, stories can be collected through an online portal at savannahga.gov/yourhistory.

The Savannah Community Memory Project seeks to preserve and share the histories of communities missing from the City’s Archives, helping to present a more inclusive and complete historical narrative of Savannah. By sharing your story with the Archives, your voice, images, and documents will become part of our collective memory, available to all who seek it.
