City Seeking Submissions for Phase Two of Storm Drain Art Project

Oct. 14, 2025 –The City of Savannah’s Cultural Resources and Water Resources departments are seeking submissions from local artists for the second phase of the Storm Drain Art Project.

First established in 2022, the educational project aims to bring attention to our waterways, reduce pollution, and protect our local ecosystems through art installed on selected storm drains throughout the city.

The City of Savannah lies within two major watersheds, the Savannah River Watershed and the Ogeechee River Watershed. When it storms, rain flows into storm drains that connect to our canals, rivers, and the Atlantic Ocean. To keep our waterways healthy for fishing and swimming, and to mitigate flooding issues, City Code directs that only rain go down the drain.

The first phase of the Storm Drain Art Project included drains that flow to the Ogeechee River Watershed. The second phase of the project will focus on 14 storm drains located on Savannah’s east side that flow into the Savannah River Watershed.

Artists of all backgrounds and abilities are welcome to apply. Applicants must be residents of Chatham County, Georgia, and 18 years of age or older. Interested artists are encouraged to attend an information session that will take place on Oct. 21 via Zoom to learn more about the opportunity. Applications will close on Monday, Nov. 10 at 11:59 p.m.
