May 15, 2025 – Deep Center has opened up applications for the 2025 session of 912 Freedom School, a free program for young people ages 13-18. 912 Freedom School is inspired by the Freedom Schools of 1964, which were designed by the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) to empower young people and their communities, through education and civic engagement.
This year’s theme – Your Voice, Your Power – is an invitation to young people interested in raising their voices and being heard – by their peers, family, schools, and/or community leaders.
The goal of 912 Freedom School is to support young people to hone their story-telling skills—in writing, spoken word, or visual art—and strengthen their understanding of how their stories can be powerful tools for change, all in a non-judgemental and fun environment. Snacks and materials provided. Stipends up to $150 are available to support participation.
