“Deep’s Winter Showcase is a time to celebrate bravery as artists, explorers, and agents of change” said executive director, Dr. Holly Whitfield. “This is a coming together, not only to hand the youth and adults of our community the microphone—but to build them the whole stage. When we think about creating transformational change, we know very well that the members of our community already have the answers our leaders seek. Our work, then, becomes about lifting up their voices, and sharing that joy with our larger community.”
The Deep Speaks: Winter Showcase will celebrate the Young Author Project fall class, Block by Block, and serve as an opportunity for our Deep village to celebrate and be in community with one another with food, performance, writing, and art.
“Young people who are a part of The Young Author Project and Block by Block are courageously opening themselves up to the transformative power of telling their stories,” said Director of Youth Programs, Kalima Harris. “As the adults in the room who support our young people in this process, we are inspired by them and encourage them to fully engage with the process of self-discovery. We look forward to being in community with our village, as we uplift our youth and affirm to them that they are heard, seen, supported, and loved.”
The Deep Speaks: Winter Showcase will take place on Saturday, December 14, 1:30-3:30PM, at Front Porch Improv (210 W. Victory). The event is completely free, but registration is required for attendance.
