Feb. 22, 2020 – An application to demolish the former Cine Grand movie theater at the Eisenhower Square shopping center was submitted on Feb. 14.

The property near Eisenhower and Waters Avenue is owned by Wood Savannah Center LLC, a subsidiary of BC Wood Properties in Lexington, KY.

The company purchased the approximately 33-year-old property in 2015 for $9 million, according to the property records.

The company has been talking with several national and regional retailers, as well as grocers, who have expressed interest in the location, according to this WTOC news story.

The application was submitted after the submission in December of a plan to convert another former theater, the Regal Cinema at 1132 Shawnee Street, into a self-serve storage facility.

The closing of the two theaters came after the Frank Theatres off of Skidaway Road shut down in 2018, as described in this Savanah Morning News article by reporter Katie Nussbaum.
