The 23,000-square-foot learning center is expected to include classrooms for preschoolers, infants and toddlers with administrative areas, a catering kitchen, a library and outdoor play areas. The project is being funded using voter approved Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax proceeds.

Located on a portion of the former Hitch Village housing site, the 9-acre parcel is being leased by the Housing Authority of Savannah to Chatham County for the development of the educational and recreational facilities.

The pending construction contract with Statesboro-based Dabbs-Williams General Contractors comes after the county entered in 2022 an agreement with East Savannah United, YMCA of Coastal Georgia, Live Oak Public Libraries and Goodwill Southeast GA to provide services on site. The partners in the initiative are planning a groundbreaking ceremony that is expected to take place in December, according to the housing authority’s recent meeting agenda.
