May 23, 2024 – The former Tucker & Sons gas station at 902 Montgomery St. will be renovated for use as a restaurant with a sports pub component, according to a petition approved by the Historic Preservation Commission on Wednesday.

The former gas station and auto-service center was built in 1990 and is a non-contributing structure within the Victorian Historic District, according to the staff report.

The HPC’s vote came after staff recommended approval of the proposed alterations, which include the addition of a small office, transparent garage doors and an outdoor patio dining area.

The Historic Savannah Foundatino also voiced support for the project, said Ellie Isaacs, HSF’s director of Preservation & Historic Properties.

“Although the building is listed as non-contributing, the proposed changes bring new life into the building while still recognizing the building’s past,” Isaacs said.

The pending conversion comes after property was sold by Donald Tucker Jr. to Rourke Rentals LLC for $785,000 in February 2023, according to property records.
