June 9, 2025 –  Historic Savannah Foundation and the Davenport House Museum are pleased to announce the continuation of the popular Artisan Spotlight Series, which showcases immersive, creative workshops at the revitalized Historic Kennedy Pharmacy, located at 323 E. Broughton St. in Savannah Ga. The Artisan Spotlight Series, which originally launched in Spring 2024, offers engaging, hands-on events and provides a dynamic platform for artists and artisans to share their creative processes with local residents and visitors.

“Our Artisan Spotlight Series offers exciting opportunities for creative expression with talented local artists working in a wide range of media,” said Davenport House Museum Executive Director Danielle Hodes, who organizes the Artisan Spotlight Series. “Our summer and fall workshops will focus on heirloom techniques, like metalworking, broom making and macramé.”

Throughout 2025, the Artisan Spotlight Series will offer interactive workshops for all skill levels, including:

MACRAMÉ PLANT HANGERS WITH OFFHAND FIBERS
Saturday, July 12 | 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
$40/person | $35/person for HSF members

Learn the fundamentals of macramé and dive into a beautiful art form defined by patterned knots. Local fiber artist Megan Marona of Offhand Fibers will host a beginner-friendly workshop and guide participants in the creation of their own plant hanger. This hands-on workshop is a wonderful opportunity to discover a new hobby, unleash creativity and make friends in a fun, relaxed environment.

METALWORK WORKSHOP WITH HILLARY DAVENPORT

Saturday, August 2 | 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

$40/person | $35/person for HSF members

Celebrate the craftsmanship behind Savannah’s iconic ironwork in this creative workshop led by local artist and SCAD graduate Hillary Davenport. Participants of all skill levels will be introduced to metalworking in a hands-on, accessible format and learn about the ancient metalsmithing technique known as repoussé. This multi-step technique involves transferring an image onto a thin metal surface to create a three-dimensional design. Drawing inspiration from the decorative ironwork details at the Davenport House, participants will create their own ornamental piece to take home.

BROOM MAKING WITH JULIA JARRETT
Saturday, September 6 | 2 to 4 p.m.

Connect with the past and discover how creativity can bring magic to the everyday in this unique workshop led by Julia Jarrett of Made by Venus Moon. Participants will learn the art of broom making using natural materials and time-honored techniques. A Savannah-based broom maker and fiber artist, Jarrett will guide participants through the tactile process from start to finish and share insights into the cultural history and symbolism of broom making. Each participant will leave with their own handmade miniature broom.

MIXED MEDIA ARTWORKS WITH KASEY JEFFREY

Saturday, October 11 | 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Join local artist Kasey Jeffrey for an imaginative and expressive workshop where participants will create their own mixed media pieces exploring texture and form, using a variety of materials from vintage ephemera and found objects to paint and paper. This workshop is perfect for anyone looking to explore storytelling through visual art. All materials will be provided, though participants are welcome to bring small personal items to incorporate. No experience necessary—just come ready to experiment and create.

HOLIDAY WREATH DECORATING WORKSHOP
Saturday, December 6 | 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
$45/person | $40/person for HSF members

Get into the holiday spirit with a hands-on wreath decorating workshop at the Historic Kennedy Pharmacy. In this beginner-friendly session, participants will receive a wreath and a variety of natural and decorative materials to add flair and reflect their personal style, from classic elegance and rustic charm to bold, whimsical design. This festive workshop offers a fun, relaxing way to kick off the holiday season with friends.

The Davenport House Museum is the historic 1820 Federal-style home and iconic Historic Savannah Foundation property that began the modern-day preservation movement in Savannah, Ga. In 1955, seven local women joined forces to save the Davenport House from demolition. Today, this award-winning house museum is dedicated to sharing the stories of master carpenter Isaiah Davenport, his family and the enslaved residents who lived in this home overlooking Columbia Square, showcasing period artifacts of life in Savannah from 1820 to 1827.
