Nov. 13, 2024 – The folks at Savannah-based Film Biz Recycling are extending an invitation to join the local nonprofit in their mission to keep items out of the landfill.

On Sunday the organization, which recycles materials and props from the entertainment industry for reuse, is hosting a “Fix-It Day” to provide the community an alternative to throwing away their broken items.

Film Biz’s Samita “TCB” Wolfe said the gathering is meant to help motivate folks, including herself, to sit down and “chip away” at their items in need of repair.

Wolfe said she has a general knowledge of how to fix “most” things but would love for others to come and help fill in the knowledge gaps.

Even if your repair skills amount to gluing things together, you’re welcome to come help, Wolfe said.

Film Biz has tables, chairs and tools, including a sewing machine, but participants are being asked to bring any specialized equipment that they think they may need.

If interested, residents can ask questions and discuss pertinent things on the event’s Instagram page.

“Hopefully this will be the first of many,” Wolfe said.

Film Biz is located at 10 Dooley Avenue west of downtown Savannah. The event is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

About Film Biz Recycling and Prop Shop
Film Biz Recycling is a 501(c)3 environmental non-profit that accepts donations of re-usable commercial materials from various sources in the entertainment industry, such as feature films, television shows, music videos, commercials, and theater. Those items are separated into four areas: prop rentals, retail, donated to local Savannah charities, or disposed and recycled in a sustainable way. Established in 2008, the nonprofit has been operating in Savannah since 2017.
