Aug. 7, 2026 — ARTS Southeast presents “story board,” an installation by artist Marcus Kenney, on display Aug. 7 through Oct. 8 in the Drive Thru Art Box at Green Truck Pub, 2430 Habersham St.
ARTS Southeast will host a happy hour artist talk with Kenney at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19. Doors open at 6 p.m.
About the project
Drawing on the technique of storyboarding to outline a narrative in visual media, Kenney’s “story board” uses assemblage, collage and the recontextualization of found objects to transform the Drive Thru Art Box into an evocative, impressionistic snapshot of a story.
The installation incorporates an array of familiar, weathered and discarded materials characteristic of Kenney’s work. Presented within the windows of the Drive Thru Art Box, the objects form a carefully staged narrative within a wider, uncontrolled environment, framed by the physical borders of the space much like a photograph or film strip.
By contrasting the constructed environment of “story board” with the surrounding public space, the installation encourages viewers to question the selection and arrangement of the objects. The pieces evoke memories of time and place while creating a nontraditional form of storytelling.
About the artist
Marcus Kenney, born in 1972, was raised in rural Louisiana and lives and works in Savannah. He earned a Master of Fine Arts in photography from the Savannah College of Art and Design.
Kenney works in multiple media, including sculpture, painting, photography and neon. His narrative works combine often-conflicting imagery reflecting America’s mixture of cultures while addressing issues including consumerism, environmentalism, religion, mortality, identity, race relations and authority.
Kenney has exhibited internationally in museums, institutions, galleries and art fairs, including in Tel Aviv, Paris, London, Montréal, New York, Boston, Chicago, Kansas City, St. Louis, Minneapolis, Miami and Portland. His work has been featured or reviewed in Art in America, New American Painting, Art Papers, The New York Times, The Boston Globe, ArtVoices, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, New York Art Magazine and ARTnews. He is represented by Laney Contemporary in Savannah.
About the Drive Thru Art Box
The Drive Thru Art Box was created in 2012 by Matt Hebermehl and Mike Williams as part of the SeeSAW, or See Savannah Art Walls, Project, a public arts initiative. Jessica Leigh Lebos created the first yarn-bomb installation.
ARTS Southeast continues the project as a way to present public art to the local community. The Drive Thru Art Box is always on view at 2430 Habersham St. in the parking lot of Green Truck Pub.
