This is what I saw and what I learned. – Eric Curl Construction activity is picking up on the Starland Village mixed-use development at 2201 Bull St. in the historic Thomas Square neighborhood. The developer behind Starland Village, Forum Group, has begun making roof repairs to the church they plan on converting into an event venue. The Forum Group also recently applied for a permit to demolish the adjoining school building, where they intend to build an apartment complex. Spotted along De Soto Avenue. Shore Thang Fresh Seafood at 2310 Montgomery St. has not given up on Tony Riley, who was disqualified as the Democratic candidate for the Chatham County Commission District 2 race seven days before the election. Riley filed a challenge in Superior Court on Friday after his Republican opponent Larry “Gator” Rivers was certified as the winner. In his petition , Riley asks that the court find that he received the requisite number of votes for election and that the election be declared invalid with regard to the commission seat and for a second election to be called. This 120-year-old structure at 507 and 509 East 36th St. was declared a threat to human life and is slated to be demolished following a judge’s order in October, according to the demolition petition going before the Historic Preservation Commission on Nov. 23.
