The celebration honors the birth of Jesus Christ while spotlighting the historic and cultural legacy of Yamacraw Village, a community with African American roots dating back to 1754. The program aligns with the longstanding mission of First Bryan Baptist Church, founded in 1788 and recognized as the oldest continuous Black Baptist church in North America, located on land continuously owned by African Americans.

Each year, Music in the Craw transforms Yamacraw Square into an outdoor cultural showcase featuring sacred music, jazz, and Gullah-Geechee traditions. Organizers say the event is designed to celebrate unity, community strength and the enduring heritage of Savannah’s Lowcountry.

This year’s program will include musical performances and storytelling, along with visual elements such as a Black Nativity scene, a Christmas tree forest, and a live poinsettia garden. Yamacraw Square—one of Savannah’s 22 historic squares—holds significant cultural meaning for African American and Gullah-Geechee communities and will be decorated for the occasion.
