April 26, 2022  – The city is planning to install parking meters at Eastern Wharf, now that the relatively new mixed-use development east of downtown Savannah has become populated with residents and hotel guests.

The $157,800 purchase of 20 multi-space meters will go before the Savannah City Council for consideration on Thursday, according to the meeting agenda.

The staff report says the Parkeon meters, which are similar to those used downtown, will bring uniformity to the city’s on-street parking program and allow customers to pay using cash, credit cards, smart cards, and the mobile parking app.

The development along the extended Savannah Riverwalk currently includes the Riverworks apartment complex, Thompson Savannah Hotel and Upper East River single-family, luxury residential neighborhood. In February, a plan was submitted for an additional 278-unit multi-family building.
