March 13, 2023 – A former movie theater building on Savannah’s southside appears to be getting prepared for a new use. Pooler-based CPSS Properties recently submitted interior demolition plans for the building after acquiring the former AMC movie theater at 511 Stephenson Avenue for almost $4 million in December, according to public sales and permitting records.

The demolition plans are for the removal of 317 feet of interior concrete walls, according to the application submitted Tuesday. The building’s new owner is a non-residential leasing company, according to state registration records, that shares a Pooler address with LRP Hotels.  LRP lists the Parkway Business Center and Pooler Parkway Retail Center as examples of commercial buildings it owns on its website.

Savannah Agenda has reached out to LRP for comment regarding the movie theater site and this article will be updated when a response is received. The theater closed last year and was being marketed by Dimension Development Partners LLC  for commercial use. The firm “specializes in solving the challenges of clients needing a single-tenant or multi-tenant retail setting, without the burden of property ownership,” according to the website. The firm did not immediately respond to a request for comment regarding the sale. The property was owned by Carmike Cinemas Inc. since 1992, according to property records.
