Construction management proposals are due by 4 p.m. on Wednesday and a recommendation is tentatively scheduled to go before the city council for consideration on June 30, according to a request for proposals issued on May 13. (The RFP states that proposals will not be accepted by any firm that did not attend the pre-bid meeting held on May 16.)

The rink will serve as training space for the Savannah Ghost Pirates and for community use. Amenities include a full-service restaurant, concessions, special event space and a team store, along with a proposed amphitheater venue with about 5,0000 seats.

The preliminary construction budget for the project, including general conditions, contingencies, and the construction manager fee, will be $42 million, according to the RFP. Savannah Ghost Pirates co-owner Wynn Cowan said on Friday that the capital structure is private information, when asked whether the team will be paying for the facility. Port Wentworth Assistant City Manager Jason Stewart, listed as the RFP contact, did not immediately respond to a request for comment emailed Friday morning.

The hockey rink was originally expected to be built in Savannah on Fort Argyle Road, as previously reported, before the minor league hockey team reached for the agreement. The owner is now proposing to develop housing on that site, according to the proposal going before the MPC on Tuesday. With the proposed update, the portion of the development will be revised to a 23-acre commercial pod with 360 apartments and commercial/retail uses on the north, and a 14-acre commercial pod on the south.

Meanwhile, Port Wentworth will also be holding public hearings concerning a planned property tax increase on June 10, June 13 and June 20, as reported by WTOC.
