Paris Baguette to open on East Broughton
Jan. 21, 2025 – A “Paris Baguette restaurant” is being planned for the historic downtown building at 24 East Broughton St., according to a plan to upfit the interior of the commercial space that is being reviewed by the city. In 2022, the Savannah Historic District Board of Review approved the Foram Group’s plans to renovate the building that previously housed 24e Design Co, as previously reported.
Former church’s new mystery owner
A former church and school building on East 55th Street and Waters Avenue was purchased by an LLC for $1.4 million on Dec. 12, according to sales records. The buyer lists a Savannah PO Box as the corporation’s address and the agent did not yet respond to a request for more details about the buyer or plans for the site. The church and community center at 728 East 55th St. previously housed the Oasis of Hope, a ministry of Isle of Hope United Methodist Church.
518 East Broughton St. has a new owner (again)
The former Southern Motors building at 518 East Broughton St. was purchased by Savannah Primary LLC on Dec. 5 for $3.5 million, according to sales records. The sale comes after Insight Real Estate Services LLC acquired the property for $1.85 million in Sept. 2022. Neither corporation could be reached regarding plans for the vacant building.
Police headquarters renovation work enters next phase
On Jan. 9, the Savannah City Council approved a $3.68 million contract for the second phase of renovations of the historic Savannah Police headquarters. The second phase is meant to ensure full compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and adherence to all applicable life safety codes. The project includes the reconfiguration of stairways, the addition of ADA ramps, fire safety and security-related upgrades, and renovations to the walls, floors, and ceiling of offices, according to the staff report. Approved in December 2022, the first phase of the project included building envelope repairs and interior renovations at a cost of $7.8 million. The city also approved a 3-year lease agreement at the time, amounting to a cost of more than $1.24 million. for use of an office building at 6600 Abercorn St. to relocate about 100 employees for the project.
A Lane amid Luxury
The police headquarters is located across the street from a recently completed luxury apartment complex on former city owned property at Habersham and East Oglethorpe. The Capital Collective at 401 East Oglethorpe is now leasing, with rents starting at $1,980 for a studio apartment, according to its website.
The city had agreed to sell the vacant site to Geyer Morris for $5 million in 2017 but amended the agreement in 2019 by agreeing to pay the developer $1.2 million to buy back and restore East Oglethorpe Lane (seen in the above photo), rather than build over it, as reported by the Savannah Morning News.
