June 23, 2024 – The Rhino Collective is planning on converting the 3-story historic building at 116 Whitaker St. for use as an 11-room inn with a restaurant on the ground floor, according to a recently issued building permit application. The development group, which includes restauranteur Ele Tran, is planning to convert a portion of the first floor and all of the second and third floors from restaurant space to an inn. The building previously housed New Realm Brewing Company.
Tran is also part of a Savannah-based development group that also acquired the former East Side Theater in February as part of a plan to renovate the building at 718 E. Broad St. and construct an apartment complex behind the structure, as previously reported.
The Rhino Hospitality Group, with Loan Tran, recently submitted a building permit application to construct a 3-story 41-unit apartment complex, Jardin Apartments, at 2613 Montgomery St. in the Thomas Square Streetcar Historic District. The two buildings were approved by the Historic Preservation Commission at the Feb. 22 meeting.
Both companies are based at 33 Bull St., an office building set which is set to be renovated by Parker’s founder and CEO Greg Parker, his partner, local business owner Zach Riddle, as recently reported.
Meanwhile, J. Elder Studio, an architectural firm commonly used by Rhino and Ele Tran for projects, is working with the Deep Patel’s Flo Hospitality Group to convert office space into restaurant space. Era Lounge is planned for the Bay Street level, Upper Factor’s Walk, of the 5-story historic building at 18 E. Bay St., according to recently submitted plans.
