April was the final month at the 41st Street location and the antiques store and vintage market will be closed as the new space is renovated for a reopening in late Summer, according to owner James Plumlee.

“We’re excited to continue growing and to offer our customers an even better experience in a space that gives us room to expand and evolve,” Plumlee said in a press release Friday.

Plumlee founded Picker Joe’s in 2013, naming it after his family Jack Russell terrier, Joey. The new location will continue to showcase antiques, vintage furniture, architectural salvage, art, oddities, and unexpected gems, according to the store’s website.

“We do have a lot of surprises for the new place,” said General Manager Chris Shomo. “It will definitely be Picker Joe’s 2.0.”

New Children’s Art School Planned

SCAD graduate Zhengtai (Tims) Huang, who has a MFA animation degree, recently submitted a building permit application to open a chldren’s art school at 7601 Waters Avenue.

Tims Arts Academy will offer creative drawing for kids, teen art classes, one-to-one tutoring and high school or college portfolio prep, Huang said via email on Friday.

“I have discussed with many local parents about their concerns regarding children’s art education–both long-time residents of Savannah and newly immigrant families who have arrived in recent years,” Huang said. “I believe this is a great opportunity as an artist with a multicultural background (Huang speaks English, Mandarin, and Korean).”
