Sept. 22, 2024 – The race is on to construct two new hotels along President Street about two miles east of downtown Savannah.

Plans were recently submitted to construct a hotel on a vacant lot at 2002 E. President St., shortly after separate plans were unveiled to construct a hotel across the street.

The latest plan is for a 4-story Avid/Candlewood dual brand hotel with 154 guest rooms, according to the building permit application submitted last week. The dual-branded Avid/Candlewood concept was launched by IHG Hotels & Resorts in 2021, and the property will feature a shared entrance and elements from both brands throughout the public areas, according to a press release issued at the time.

The property’s Pooler-based owner, President St. Investments LLC, acquired the commercial site for almost $1.3 million in October 2021, according to sales records.

Fronting the Mariner Grove apartments, the proposed hotel’s location is on the northeast corner of President’s intersection with Wahlstrom Road and sits across from another hotel being planned to the west of the Wahlstrom intersection.

Parker’s founder and CEO Greg Parker’s development company, Drayton-Parker Companies LLC, recently sold the vacant parcel at 1940 East President St. for $2.4 million, according to sales records. Savannah-based Integrated Civil Solutions then submitted a site plan in August for a 4-story hotel and 5-story climate controlled self-storage facility on the site on the northwest corner of East President Street and Wahlstrom, which is adjacent to a Waffle House to the west.

The buyer of the property, Savannah-based 1940 East President Street LLC, was organized by Zachary Riddle, who has partnered with Parker to renovate “one of the ugliest buildings in Savannah” at 33 Bull St., as previously reported.
