Dec. 16, 2024 – The city had to have a contractor replace “thousands” of holiday lights, meant to be displayed year-round, due to weather exposure and damage from rodents, according to a recent staff memo.
“A reevaluation of a more sustainable solution for the Broughton Street lights will be necessary in 2025,” the memo states. “Looking ahead, we recommend engaging community leaders in discussions about the long-term vision for citywide holiday decorating.”
There was no word on whether tinsel is acceptable these days.
