Jan. 14, 2026 – Happy New Year?

I know it’s been a couple of weeks from when we crossed over into 2026, but I just got back from a road trip through Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi, where I got to see some great live music and watch some great dogs (my side gig.). My takeaway: We’re getting there, but Savannah needs more live music and performances earlier in the day. On the other hand, I’m so glad we don’t have those scooter companies here, with their green and orange rental scooters littering our sidewalks and streets. Gambling cost me $20 in 20 minutes, and I’m sure a lot more to others. The vacant storefront-dotted city in which the casino hotel I stayed at was not experiencing anything close to an economic boost. We don’t need it here. Dogs are great and so is Savannah. So glad to be back.

Some great resources for finding live music here in Savannah:

For the full experience and to set the appropriate mood, I recommend listening to this recording of the Lucious Spiller Band performing the blues at Red’s Lounge in Clarksdale, Mississippi, while looking over my photos.

Red’s was like hanging out at someone’s living room, where awesome musicians just sit down and jam – and there’s a bar.

Not sure why there is a statue of liberty in the corner, or a giant bike shadow, but there you go. Things you see while walking home after a night seeing the blues.

They have a lot of murals in Clarksdale.

Gambling is not my bag. I lost money, got a headache and was really just wanting to play some pinball.

I got this image on the Congress Avenue Bridge after watching a bunch of bats fly from their slumber underneath it at sunset.

The Continental Club in Austin.

This was one of my favorite places in Austin. Great music, cheap drinks and yes, that is a man on a horse in the back left.

C-Boy’s Heart and Soul in Austin

This was another favorite venue of mine. In addition to some great live music, they were playing some wacky movies on a small tv behind the bar, including Empire of the Ants.

The Blue Moon Saloon and Guest House in Lafayette, La.

The Blue Moon Saloon was great because I got to see some excellent live music, then walk across the hall to my bedroom and crash.
