Good morning,
Lots of updates this week, including new information on the plan, featured just last Sunday, to rehab the historic Woolworth’s building. Turns out, the planned use of the building may actually be for visitors, rather than residents, as initially reported. Meanwhile, the developer behind a proposed 7-story hotel finally got the building’s height and mass approved after multiple attempts and design changes.
Among next week’s meeting highlights is the return of the multifamily development planned for the former Wicklow Stables site and south of Victory Drive. The Savannah City Council is being asked by Victory Drive Investors, LLC to designate city right of way, which runs through the middle of the site, as surplus and available for purchase. The developer is seeking to incorporate the unused streets into the 280-unit development. The city will get $210,000 for the property, amounting to about 1.2 acres, based on the latest appraisal, according to the staff report. The city says the revenue will be used to promote affordable housing.
You’ll also see I’m featuring some new governing bodies in the upcoming meetings section. I figured there may be some folks out there who want to know what elected officials in Tybee Island and Pooler are up to. For an even more extensive guide to meeting happenings throughout the coastal region, check out The Current’s new civic calendar.
Fan of surveys? Me neither. Still, local planners say this one could help improve transportation in Chatham County. If so, that’s great. If not, you wasted about five to 10 minutes. Still, I’d like to think it will help those folks who waste way more than 10 minutes waiting for their bus to show. It would also be nice if fewer pedestrians are sent to the hospital, where 10 minutes can be a blessing.
