Satire by Eric Curl

May 13, 2023 – The city’s recent acquisition of the Evergreen Cemetery has led to some surprising discoveries dating back to former Savannah Mayor Eddie Deloach’s administration, as overgrowth and vegetation is cleared from the neglected site.

Remains of the previous council’s body of work were found buried at the site, including the fire fee ordinance, Savannah Forward Strategic Plan, Savannah Shines neighborhood initiative and the Urban Land Institute’s 2018 Civic Center redevelopment plan that called for the demolition of the entire structure.

Carbon dating indicates the artifacts have been underground since about 2020, coincidently, when the new administration took their seats. After documenting the finds for archival purposes, the city reinterred most of the historic relics out of respect for the past.

The city is also looking to the future. In addition to burying past platforms, the cemetery is expected to serve as the final resting place for plans developed by current and upcoming administrations.
