Satire by Eric Curl
Dec. 7, 2025 – Some call it an ‘alley’ or a ‘lane’, but Mel calls it a “shopping aisle.”
The 60th Street resident completed his holiday shopping during his morning walk on Sunday, finding a “treasure trove” of gifts ranging from a rocking chair to a Laurel and Hardy umbrella holder.
As a result of his “holi-lane shopping”, his family and friends will be receiving some very “eclectic” presents, including a Randy “Macho Man” Savage figure, a leather bull whip, a cake dish that glows in the dark, and a season 1 DVD of 90s-sitcom The Nanny.
Mel’s relatives have expressed reservations, however, after his previous years’ gifts (who can forget the incident with the race-car fire suit). They suggested he may want to go to some actual local shops this year, while noting that a holiday pop-up at the Rainbow House provides an opportunity to score unique vintage finds and one-of-a-kind pieces from local makers and artists.
“As much as little William appreciated the coconut head sculpture last Christmas, it was pretty spooky and it took him a week before he could sleep soundly again,” said his sister-in-law.
