Jan. 25, 2026 – The US General Services Administration is planning on demolishing the federal Juliet Gordon Lowe building downtown at 120 Barnard St., as announced by Savannah Mayor Van Johnson during a media briefing on Jan. 20.

While a majority of residents were thrilled to learn the “bathroom building” in the otherwise lovely Telfair Square would be torn down, many were disappointed to learn a data center would take its place.

“I was hoping it would be a hotel,” said no one.
