Aug. 6, 2023 – The Savannah City Council is scheduled to consider a proclamation celebrating the actions of one resident who recently obeyed all traffic laws while driving throughout the city.

It was “amazing”, proclaimed one city official, regarding the safe way the citizen maneuvered throughout Savannah’s streets.

“I have never seen anything like it,” the official said. “He actually used his turn signal before changing lanes, not after, and then when the traffic light turned red he actually stopped instead of speeding on through.”

The recognition ceremony comes as the city prepares to host four different opportunities, on Aug. 8 and Aug. 9, for the public to participate in shaping the continued implementation of the Vision Zero Plan, which aims to achieve the goal of zero traffic fatalities and severe injuries.

During the city council meeting, the mayor and aldermen are also set to consider a driver’s license buyback program as a part of the initiative.

“Some people should just use public transit and let someone else do the driving,” the official said.
