April 24, 2024 – On Wednesday, the Historic Preservation Commission approved SCAD’s petition to build a kitchen addition on the 1950s-era diner at 1402 Habersham St., along with the construction of a covered outdoor dining area next to the building.

All of the new construction elements are “meticulously designed” to complement the diner’s unique style while harmonizing with the Victorian District’s visual aesthetics, according to Lynch Associates Architects’ project description.

Fork & Dagger previously operated at the location before shutting down at the end of 2023 after announcing SCAD had ended their lease, as reported by Eat It & Like It.

A covered patio will be added next to the diner building at 1402 Habersham as shown in this graphic submitted by Lynch Associates Architects (click image to see submittal packet).

Relocated from Rome, NY, by SCAD, the 1954 prefabricated diner building at 1402 Habersham St. is a non-contributing building in the Victorian Historic District, according to the HPC staff report.

The proposed renovations come after last year’s renovations of another SCAD owned diner building at 1220 Barnard St., which the university now leases to the owner’s of Strange Bird, as previously reported.
