An editor’s note: Savannah’s Got Talent – Part of my mission with Savannah Agenda is to shine the light on local talent and introduce residents that may not normally be in the news. With that said, I’m proud to showcase Sarah Cuda’s photography skills in her debut feature, Scenes of Savannah. which accomplishes both of these goals. I recently sent Sarah to get some photos from a local laundromat and she also shares a short profile of someone she met there. I hope you enjoy it. I think she did a great job and look forward to bringing you more of her work documenting the day-to-day throughout the city in the future.

Stay engaged Savannah,

Eric Curl

Sept. 16, 2024 – Meet Denise Collins. Denise grew up in the US Virgin Islands, where the sun and sea kissed her soul and touched her heart. She has lived in the south for some time now and was a server for 43 years. Like many of us, when covid hit, she lost her job and had to decide what the next chapter was going to look like. Denise needed a fresh start and wanted to reinvent herself, so she evaluated her skills and decided to start something new.

Cleaning homes and baking were areas that Denise knew she could use her skills, so that’s where she decided to get started. In a world with so much going on, she knew she was onto something, and realized that she had an ability to bring happiness to others by infusing love into each one of her creations. She is a talented baker who can deliver desserts for anything from birthdays to weddings and anything in between.

This led her to feel comfortable and offer her services to the Rhett, a restaurant located inside the Alida Hotel. This move gave her the boost of courage she needed, to approach more restaurants and share her gift of baking magic. You may have had one of her desserts and not even known it. Her desserts have been Pacci Restaurant located at the Bryce Hotel, La Scala and Circa 1875.

While she still bakes for banquets at the Rhett, these days Denise still makes decadent desserts that are on the menu at Circa 1875, including a weekly specialty cheesecake and a to die for chocolate, chocolate, chocolate mousse cake.

To make things even sweeter, a new business recently opened up called Goodfortune Market, located at 2413 Waters Ave. Not only is this a small female owned business, it’s a coffee shop and grocery and where you will find more of Denise’s desserts, muffins and yummy pastries.

When this amazing soul isn’t making tasty treats, you can find her traveling with her fabulously grown children or on the beach. Follow Denise’s Desserts on Facebook, to keep up with all the fresh baked goodness and the exciting new desserts she is bringing to local Savannah establishments or an event near you.

  1. What an eye! This photo essay evokes all the warmth of a steamy laundromat. Great piece on Denise as well. Well done!
