Oct. 10, 2025 – Sea and Sky Family Day at Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum. Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum will host a special Family Day inspired by the museum’s new art exhibit, “Beyond the Plate: Sea and Sky,” which features original work by Rob Strati, one of America’s hottest contemporary artists. This event is free and open to the public and will offer a variety of hands-on, creative activities for children of all ages.

Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a range of art projects that reflect the themes and styles of Strati’s collage-inspired mixed-media work. Additional event highlights include face painting, sidewalk chalk art and maritime-inspired activities. Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum will also offer free admission from 1 to 4 p.m. to all attendees.

This family-focused event is made possible through a special collaboration with community partners, including Deep Center, Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia, King of Pops, Loop It Up Savannah, Savannah Children’s Museum, Savannah State University, STARBASE Savannah and Tybee Island Marine Science Center.

BACKGROUND:
“Beyond the Plate: Sea and Sky,” an exciting new solo exhibition featuring nautical-inspired, mixed-media art by Rob Strati, recently opened at the Ships of the Sea Museum and is on display through April 12, 2026. “Beyond the Plate” incorporates broken porcelain plates that Strati has embellished and adorned with creative details. Curated by Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum Curator Tania Sammons, this exhibit showcases Strati’s latest bold, kinetic mixed-media works and limited-edition prints as well as a site-specific installation suspended from the ceiling of the museum’s atrium.

ABOUT SHIPS OF THE SEA MARITIME MUSEUM:

Founded in 1966, Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum is dedicated to celebrating and preserving Savannah, Ga’s maritime legacy. The museum is housed within the William Scarbrough House, a stately Greek-Revival residence designed in 1819 by acclaimed architect William Jay for William Scarbrough, the first president of the Savannah Steamship Company. The museum features nine galleries showcasing ship models, paintings, and maritime antiques, and has the largest private garden in Savannah’s National Historic Landmark District.
