Sept. 11, 2020 – With a blue-stained tongue, Mayor Van Johnson, along with campaign Chairman Terry Enoch, touted the new blueberry-infused ice cream flavor, Georgia Pecan Blues, that Leopold‘s introduced Thursday to support the United Way of the Coastal Empire, as the organization seeks to raise $8 million in this year’s fundraising campaign.
(Side note: The mayor actually attributed his blue tongue to an “icy pop” he had earlier, not the ice cream, but his colorful palate was still in line with the organization’s branding. No “fake news” here.)
Enoch, the Savannah-Chatham Public Schools Police Chief, joined Johnson during the mayor’s weekly Facebook chat on Friday night to help get those who are capable of contributing to help those in need.
Funds raised will be used to support regional nonprofits such as America’s Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia, Deep Center, the American Red Cross of Georgia, Eastside Concerned Citizens Inc., Goodwill of Southeast Georgia, and many, many more.
In 2020, United Way invested more than $3.6 million in 81 programs across 53 nonprofit agencies in Bryan, Chatham, Effingham, and Liberty counties creating a vital network of support and services, according to the organization’s website.
