Oct. XX, 2026 – The Kiah House and Public Gallery projects are approximately 90% complete, according to officials with Civis, the nonprofit development organization behind the effort.
Juan J. Uzcategui, development coordinator with Civis, said in a recent update to Savannah Agenda that the public gallery at 2001 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard — connected to the Kiah House by a central courtyard — will feature exhibitions and programs centered on the theme of “Cross-Boundary Encounters” and feature work that encourages dialogue across history, culture, and lived experiences. Through these initiatives, the gallery aims to foster a deeper understanding of our interconnectedness and shared responsibility for a common future, Uzcategui said via the emailed update on Oct. 14. Construction is expected to be completed by the end of November, with an anticipated opening in spring 2027.
Civis continues to actively invest in and support revitalization efforts throughout the Cuyler-Brownville neighborhood. Renovation work is beginning at 612 W. 36th Street, and plans for 502 W. 36th Street were recently approved by the Historic Preservation Commission (HPC).
Several additional projects are currently in the planning stages, with further progress anticipated in 2027.
The nonprofit’s new West Broad Blueprint Initiative, a $7 million investment, was recently recognized by the Savannah City Council at the Oct. 8 meeting, as previously reported.
