Oct. 23, 2026 – Mitsubishi Power Americas, Inc. today announced plans to expand its Savannah Machinery Works facility, a key U.S. manufacturing and service center for advanced-class gas turbines, steam turbines and power generation equipment serving customers across the Americas. “Savannah has been a critical hub for Mitsubishi Power since 2010, and we are excited to deepen our commitment to the local community with the expansion of Savannah Machinery Works (SMW),” said Brandon Bodie, Vice President, Savannah Machinery Works. “With this expansion, we are investing in our facilities and in our workforce, manufacturing capabilities, and a more resilient supply chain to deliver critical power generation equipment and services to our customers, all while supporting economic growth here in Savannah.”

The announcement coincided with the signing of an expansion framework agreement between Mitsubishi Power Americas and Savannah Economic Development Authority (SEDA), formalizing the company’s continued growth in the region. Representatives of both Mitsubishi Power and SEDA, along with representatives from the Georgia Department of Economic Development, elected officials and community leaders attended the announcement event.

“Mitsubishi Power Americas’ announcement that they will be expanding is a huge win for Chatham County. This was a very highly competitive project that is one of the largest investments to date on behalf of Mitsubishi Power Americas and will create meaningful new job opportunities for our community. We want to thank SEDA Director of Existing Industry Zachary Ott from our team for his work as well as our partners including the Georgia Department of Economic Development. We look forward to a future groundbreaking ceremony to get the construction phase underway,” said Savannah Economic Development Authority President and CEO Trip Tollison.

Mitsubishi Power Americas first broke ground on Savannah Machinery Works in September 2009, building what would become the company’s first complete gas turbine manufacturing facility outside of Japan. Construction of the 430,000 square-foot facility was completed in September 2010, and Mitsubishi Power’s first gas turbine ever produced in the United States shipped from Savannah in October 2012. In June 2023, the facility celebrated the manufacture and shipment of its 50th advanced-class gas turbine.

The planned expansion, which is supported by a $490 million investment from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI), will add 450,000 square feet to the existing facility and create more than 220 new jobs at Savannah Machinery Works. The investment will also serve to enhance Mitsubishi Power Americas’ manufacturing capabilities in Savannah through additional machining capacity, advanced manufacturing technologies, increased material flow efficiency and future-ready production infrastructure. Beyond production capacity, the project is expected to create new opportunities across manufacturing, engineering, quality, maintenance, logistics and support functions.

Savannah represents a key component of Mitsubishi Power’s broader investment strategy in the Americas, which includes the opening of the company’s newly expanded Power Generation Services Headquarters in Orlando and the planned opening of its new corporate headquarters in Lake Mary in November, with additional expansions planned through 2028.

“Meeting the growing demand for power will require investment in facilities, in our supply chain and in our workforce – which is what we’re building here at Savannah Machinery Works,” said Bill Newsom, President and CEO, Mitsubishi Power Americas. “This expansion strengthens American manufacturing and gives our people the advanced capabilities they need as they continue to deliver for our customers and help electricity growth across the Americas for decades to come.”
