Nonprofit to fight child malnourishment around the world from Pooler
A life-saving “therapeutic food” will soon be making its way from Pooler to malnourished children throughout the world.
Mana Nutrition plans to produce what it calls Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) at a warehouse being built at 5212 Old Louisville Road, following the Pooler City Council’s approval on Tuesday of the nonprofit’s request to manufacture the mixture of peanut butter and infant formula at the site.
SEDA drops pursuit of heavy industrial zoning for manufacturing site
That appears to be the Savannah Economic Development Authority’s sentiment when it comes to rezoning the 632-acre Savannah Chatham Manufacturing Center located about 15 miles west of downtown Savannah.
SEDA recently dropped its pursuit to rezone a majority of the manufacturing park from light industrial to heavy industrial, following community opposition and rejection from Savannah’s zoning advisory board.
Renovations of former barber shop OK’d for planned bar and dog park
The Historic Preservation Commission on Wednesday approved alterations to 2302 Bull St., the former Boys II Men barber shop a local business owner is planning to convert into a restaurant and bar with a dog park. Approval was contingent on the architect working with staff to revise the proposed park fence so that it is more visually compatible. Wendy Rossi said that the business idea was inspired by similar establishments such as the BrewHound Dog Park + Bar in Jacksonville, Fla., as previously reported.
Montgomery Street petitions approved
In addition, the HPC approved design details for three, 3-to-4-story multi-family buildings at 1825 Montgomery St., along with design details for two, 3-story mixed-use buildings at 2613 Montgomery St.
Consideration postponed of private Club at 32nd & Habersham
Meanwhile, the HPC continued consideration of former state representative Craig Gordon’s proposed plans for Habersham and 32nd streets, where he wants to build a 3-story, mixed-use building for use as a private club for small business entrepreneurs, as previously reported. The postponement to the March meeting was made in order to give the architect time to make some recommended design changes.
Owner not quite ready to begin renovating historic gas station
The new owners of the vacant 1920s-era gas station at 410 East 37th St. apparently need more time to bring their vision for the historic building to life. The HPC approved their request for a 6-month extension following a previous approval of the proposed rehab project. The extension request comes after the building’s new owner, Atlanta-based Train Track Investments, submitted renovation plans that would accommodate food truck service at the site, as previously reported.
Savannah Zoning Board of Appeals agenda for Thursday’s meeting now available
The agenda includes another appeal to block the construction of the single-family home at 336 Barnard St., following the failure of previous attempts to stop the project.
