Historic Cuyler-Brownville homes to be renovated for affordable housing

The New York-based Galvan Foundation is not alone in seeking to invest in Cuyler-Brownville, one of Savannah’s oldest African-American neighborhoods. Less than one week after the Savannah City Council approved Galvan’s plans to develop 19 vacant city properties for housing, the Historic Preservation Commission approved multiple petitions from different developers to rehabilitate residential properties in the historic neighborhood. Jinx owner seeking support for new location

The owner of the Jinx is seeking letters of support as plans move forward to open a new location for the popular Savannah bar and music venue following the downtown establishment’s closure in 2020. On Tuesday, a call via the venue’s social media pages was issued by Jinx owner Susanne Warnekros for help as preparations are made for the bar’s “long awaited resurrection.” Read the full story>

Chatham Area Transit preparing for another transportation tax referendum

Chatham Area Transit officials are planning for a potential future TSPLOST referendum after voters rejected the proposed 1% sales tax for transportation related projects last year. On Tuesday, the CAT board approved a proposed TSPLOST project list that includes funding for electric vehicles, charging infrastructure and bus shelter upgrades. Read the full story>

Riverwalk collapse costs climb

The costs to repair and rebuild the Hutchinson Island riverwalk continue to mount, following the collapse of a section near the Savannah Convention Center and Westin hotel last June. The total project is now expected to cost more than $11 million dollars and funding assistannce is being sought from the state and federal government. County officials say the improved riverwalk is being built to last. Read the full story>
