Oct. 10, 2020 – The historic building at 127 W. Congress St. in the heart of downtown housed The Jinx for about 17 years, before the beloved “boozery” and “music cavern” closed in July.  Now about three months since the last shot of Wild Turkey was served, plans for the future use of the building are coming to light.

Alteration plans for the space will be considered Wednesday as part of the Savannah Historic District Board of Review’s agenda. Staff is recommending approval of the alterations, which include some changes to the storefront windows, along with the addition of an interior front door and rear door on the lane side.

While use of the building is not up for consideration, the drawings submitted by Savannah-based Barnard Architects indicate the owner intends to use the building to house a nightclub, with the addition of basement-level and second-floor bars, apartments and a kitchen.

If brought to fruition, the new business will become the latest use for the building that dates back to 1873. The building has also housed a hardware store, as well as a sporting goods shop, as photos show in the submitted the research packet .
