SCAD’s net worth tops $1 billion
The Savannah College of Art and Design’s assets, minus liabilities, increased from about $884 million to more than $1 billion during the fiscal year that ended June 30, 2020, according to the nonfprofit’s latest IRS 990 form. The milestone comes after SCAD generated more than $587 million in revenue during the 12-month period while expenses amounted to almost $435 million, as reported here.
Filming in Savannah

Property Matters
Remember that 10-year-old plan to develop Savannah’s Hutchinson Island? It may actually happen.
The construction fencing is installed, the office trailer onsite, the ground cleared, permitting is ongoing and Chatham County has issued a request for proposals to dredge the adjacent slip for a planned marina. About 10 years after Savannah businessman John Cay and his development group, Savannah Harbor Associates, announced plans to extend Savannah’s downtown to Hutchinson Island, work has finally started on that $400 million vision. Pending developments concerning past stories
On Thursday, the Savannah City Council will consider actions regarding matters covered by Savannah Agenda. The first is the mayor and alderman’s consideration of the Metorpolitan Planning Commission’s recommendation to designate 90 Cuyler-Brownville properties as historic structures. The Kiah house is one of the properties being recommended for the designation and extra protections the historic status provides.
In addition, the council will consider the rezoning request by Cabretta Capital as part of a plan to redevelop and rehabilitate the historic St. Paul’s Academy building at 315 West 38th St. for use as an apartment building. The MPC is recommending approval.
