The Pooler City Council is meeting on Monday

The agenda is now available. (I have not received the full agenda packet in time for publication.)

The Metropolitan Planning Commission is meeting Tuesday

The agenda includes a petition for special-use permit to sell alcohol at 2602 Whitaker, where the owner of the Jinx is planning to reopen the popular bar and music venue following the downtown establishment’s closure in 2020. Staff is recommending denial of the request, citing the proposed bar’s proximity to residential properties, parking concerns and proposed operating hours. Read the full story>

Update: The applicant requested to move the special-use petition to the April 11 meeting

West Chatham apartment complex

The MPC will also consider New York-based Hillpointe’s petition to rezone 45 acres in west Chatham County for the construction of a 411-unit multifamily development with some commercial use. Located on the north side of Ogeechee Road, and adjacent to the Southwest Middle School and Coastal Georgia Botanical Gardens, the site is currently zoned commercial, which allows uses such as grocery stores, hotels, restaurants, auto dealers and retail. The proposal to rezone the site to Multifamily Residential and Community Business would ensure that the majority of the parcel would be developed as residential, according to MPC staff. Staff is recommending approval with conditions concerning vehicle access.

Update: The rezoning was approved.

The Historic Preservation Commission is meeting Wednesday

The agenda includes consideration of former state representative Craig Gordon’s proposed plans for Habersham and 32nd streets, where he wants to build a 3-story, mixed-use building for use as a private club for small business entrepreneurs, as previously reported.  Staff is now recommending approval after consideration of the project was continued last month to give the architect time to make some recommended design changes.
