Jan. 26, 2025 – On Monday, the Chatham County Commission will consider an agreement with SEDA for the distribution of $10 million in voter approved SPLOST funds. The funds were to be distributed to SEDA if SPLOST revenue exceeded $430 million, according to the SPLSOT resolution. In addition, the commission will be asked to continue its objection approval to continue objection to the annexation of property sought by the City of Savannah at 5 W. Gateway Blvd. The annexation is unlawful because the three parcels are not contiguous to city limits, according to county officials.
The Georgia Ports Authority is meeting on Tuesday, when the board will consider an almost $73.6 million budget for the Ocean Terminal Truck Gates project. The project includes the construction of a new truck gate complex that will provide 12 inbound gate lanes and six outbound gates lanes on the 45 acres site to serve growing container volumes.
The pending expenditure comes after the GPA recently demolished the 110-year-old Ocean Steamship Terminal building as part of the expansion of Port of Savannah’s Ocean Terminal, as previously reported.
The GPA is also planning to expand its terminal operations on Hutchinson Island and recently purchased more than 13 acres west of the Savannah Convention Center as part of that plan, as previously reported.
