Aug. 13, 2026 – The city of Savannah invites the public to attend a community celebration honoring the legacy of the former Savannah Civic Center and marking the next chapter for the site as demolition of the former arena gets underway.

“Honoring the Legacy, Building the Future” will take place Thursday, Aug. 20, 2026, from 10-11 a.m. in the Civic Center parking lot at 301 W. Oglethorpe Ave.

The event will bring together the mayor and City Council, City Manager Jay Melder, stakeholders, dignitaries, community members and honored guests to hear remarks, learn about the history of the Civic Center and observe the ceremonial presentation of a commemorative brick from the former arena to the city’s Office of Municipal Archives & History.

The public will also have an opportunity to participate in the commemorative brick retrieval ceremony.
