Good afternoon,

The last day at the day job has been pushed back to May 12. In the meantime, I have been working to write about as much as I could over the weekend before Sunday night rolls around. Time is not very considerate when it comes to deadlines and I didn’t complete nearly as much as I would have liked, but hopefully you’ll find something of value in the stories I was able to get published. There is so much more out there to write about, but only so much output the hours allow and computer my brain cells can take.

Thanks for staying engaged,

Eric

It’s been a few years, but I braved downtown last night in order to get some photos of the late-night scene for this story about the city’s plan to develop a night management plan. It was a bit louder and more crowded than I remember from my younger days, when downtown was a regular destination, but everyone appeared to be enjoying themselves in a responsible manner. Unfortunately, it was only 11 p.m. and there were two shootings early Sunday morning, the latest among a series of incidents downtown over the past three months that show how the downtown fun can sometimes take violent turns.

If you’ve ever been to Bull Street Taco, you’ve seen this quirky little building next to it. A plan was recently submitted to renovate and expand the 194-square-foot structure, after the owner never moved forward with plans to demolish it about 2.5 years ago.

Opinion Matters

I like to give credit where credit is due and the Chatham County Board of Assessors deserves kudos after they started posting their full meeting agendas this month, which provide a lot more information that the basic agendas. This is something most people don’t care about, but that certain bloggers and media outlets should appreciate.

This story on a new downtown housing project that had an entirely different headline until I contacted the parties involved. Turns out, the signs didn’t necessarily mean what they said. The plan does include construction on property the city traded to another developer about three years ago a land swap deal, along with the demolition of a building that housed David’s Dry Cleaners along President Street.
