The Georgia Ports Authority is meeting Tuesday.

The agenda includes authorization to spend up to $170 million to purchase 55 rubber-tired gantry cranes to move cargo within the container stack areas as part of a plan to increase container capacity of Savannah’s Ocean Terminal. Beginning in the summer of 2024, about five cranes would be delivered every five weeks to support the expanding container facilities.

The Chatham Area Transit Authority is meeting Tuesday

The agenda includes the reconfiguration of the Joe Murray Rivers, Jr., Intermodal Transit Center to support CAT’s call center operations. The relocation is expected to enhance the customer experience and provide an employee workspace equipped with an upgraded work environment.

Updates

We’ll have to wait to see what the Metropolitan Planning Commission thinks of a petition to open a restaurant and bar at 2602 Whitaker, where the owner of the Jinx is planning to reopen the music venue that closed in 2020 during the pandemic. The applicant requested to move the agenda item to the April 11 MPC meeting after staff recommended denial of the request due to the proposed bar’s proximity to residential properties, parking concerns and proposed operating hours.

The MPC approved a developer’s petition  to rezone 45 acres in west Chatham County for the construction of a mixed-use apartment complex and commercial development.

The Historic Preservation Commission approved former state representative Craig Gordon’s proposed plans for Habersham and 32nd streets, where he wants to build a 3-story, mixed-use building for use as a private club for small business entrepreneurs, as previously reported.
