City of Savannah’s ONSE Hosts Stage Drama Examining Gun Violence, Grief, Courage to Heal

July 24, 2026 – The City of Savannah’s Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement (ONSE), through its new program, Young Artists of Savannah United (YASU), invites community members, families, educators, youth advocates, and supporters of the Arts to attend an evening of local live theater.

ONSE and YASU present “SUPERHERO,” an original stage drama exploring the devastating impact of gun violence and the extraordinary resilience of young people determined to create change. The performance, sponsored by ONSE as part of its ongoing commitment to youth empowerment, violence prevention, and community engagement through the Arts, takes place Friday, July 31, 2026, at 7:00pm, at the Otis S. Johnson Cultural Arts Center, located at 201 Montgomery Street in Savannah.

Set against the backdrop of a generation shaped by trauma, survival, and the search for hope, “SUPERHERO” follows Xavier Griffin, a young kid struggling to cope with the heartbreaking loss of his brother, Marquis, to gun violence. Refusing to allow tragedy to define his future, Xavier transforms his grief into purpose, stepping forward as a source of hope and strength within his community. He discovers true heroism extends beyond the streets – it begins at home, where his own family is quietly carrying the weight of unimaginable loss, prompting the questions: “Who will save us?”
