Satire by Eric Curl
While generally considered an all-out fabulous show, some audience members at Friday night’s Beach Boys tribute concert at Victory North were a bit baffled with the band’s rendition of GWAR’s thrash-metal hit ‘Slaughterrama’.
The performance of the satirical, over-the-top song from GWAR’s 1990 album ‘Scumdogs of the Universe’ was apparently the result of someone accidentally mixing up the set list for another show, according to one of the performers. Upon recognizing the error, the band quickly jettisoned their monster costumes and transitioned into “Good Vibrations.” While the mistake wasn’t discovered until after the audience had been drenched in fake blood, the crowd simply shook off the substance while shimmying to the Beach Boys classic.
When asked their thoughts on the mix-up, one attendee shrugged it off and said assumed the GWAR cover was a Beach Boys’ B-Side.
“I figured it was from the ’80s,” he said. “A lot of bands from that era did some crazy stuff that decade.”
