June 25, 2026 – ARTS Southeast will host Milwaukee-based printmaker and muralist John Fleissner as part of its ON::View Artist Residency from July 9 through Aug. 7 at 2301 Bull St. in Savannah.
The residency will include an artist talk at 6:30 p.m. July 22 and a First Friday Finale from 5-9 p.m. Aug. 7.
Fleissner’s work focuses on labor movements and social organizing, drawing from his experience as an organizer and educator. He teaches printmaking in Milwaukee Public Schools and is active with the Milwaukee Teachers Education Association.
During the residency, Fleissner plans to create a large-scale woodcut series highlighting labor history, including strikes of the 1930s such as the Toledo Auto-Lite strike, Minneapolis Teamsters strike and San Francisco General Strike. He also plans to incorporate research on working-class organizing in the South, including the Southern Tenant Farmers Union.
In addition, Fleissner will create smaller linoleum-cut posters, a format often used in public spaces, classrooms and demonstrations. His public engagement during the residency will explore connections between printmaking, social movements and collective action.
The ON::View Residency is supported by the city of Savannah, with additional support from the Georgia Council for the Arts, National Endowment for the Arts and local residency sponsors.
